Charitable deductions and tax breaks are certainly not the most important factors when considering a gift to KFCP, but with federal
individual income tax rates as high as 38.6 percent, a gift to KFCP may be exactly what you need to reduce your tax burden. It's never too early to consider how and when to plan for future charitable giving. And estate planning does not have to be complicated or nerve wracking. Simply call us at
1-800-762-6202. We will match you with a professional planned-giving specialist who can advise you and tailor a plan in accordance with your wishes and in your best interest.
The following are just a few of the giving options:
GIFTS OF CASH
Cash gifts are deductible from the donor's adjusted gross
income, up to 50%. Donors must itemize to claim deductions.
GIFTS OF STOCKS OR BONDS
Donors can increase their tax savings through gifts of
stocks and bonds in amounts up to 30% of the donor's
adjusted gross income. For securities held a year or more as
capital assets,
the donor can claim the amount of appreciated value as a
tax deduction. Since the donor is not selling the asset,
there is no capital gains tax associated with the sale.
With this advantage, the donor may realize even greater
tax savings than through the more traditional cash
donation. Any stocks or bonds donated to KFCP will be
liquidated and applied to KFCP's program and services.
If the donor's investment has dropped in value, the donor
may opt to sell it and give the gift to KFCP. The donor
not only can claim a capital loss on the tax return, but
also can claim the value of the gift as a tax deduction.
Charitable deductions for ordinary income property or
short-term capital gain property (held less than a year)
will be limited to the fair market value of the property
less the amount that would be treated as ordinary income on
a disposition.
Consultation with a tax adviser is always recommended.
GIFTS OF INSURANCE
KFCP can be named as an "additional insured" on any life
insurance policy. KFCP receives the designated monies
only if all other named beneficiaries do not survive
the donor.
OUTRIGHT BEQUEST
A person may designate KFCP in his or her will to receive
a specific dollar amount or specific assets such as
securities, real estate or personal property. Such legacy
gifts are used to promote kidney health and to help
children and adults with kidney problems throughout KFCP's
service area.
